Engineer in the spotlight: Jonathan Delfosse

2 min read

September’s engineer in the spotlight

Every day, we work with talented engineering experts who are the foundation of Catalay. This month, we’re interviewing Jonathan Delfosse.

Jonathan currently works as Expert Transport, defining and designing stages of the decommissioning program of nuclear power plants in Belgium with a focus on transport-related issues.

In our Engineering in the Spotlight articles, we want to cast a light on the person behind the expertise.

Hi Jonathan! How did you become part of Catalay’s community?

“After a long period in the hospitality sector, I wanted to go back to a technical job and consultancy seemed the way to go.”

“I value the freedom of being a consultant in a company that cares about its employees. I’d describe Catalay as human-oriented, and I appreciate the good interaction with my team manager.

What’s your favourite Catalay experience so far?

“Definitely the karting event! I came in first place and won a bottle of champagne.”

Tell us something about yourself that might surprise us.

“Six months a year, when the weather is good enough, I help a friend of mine who owns a hot air balloon company and who is one of the best balloon pilots in Belgium. He still has the record of the longest flight during the Gordon Benett cup from Albuquerque, New Mexico to Squatec, Quebec!”

“As a crew member, I help the balloon pilots to take off safely, and I try to arrive before them at their landing place with an old-school Land Rover Defender and a trailer. The goal is to be able to bring the balloon (>1T) and the people back.”

“Plot twist: we never know where the pilots are going to land (even in 2022 ;-)). So, it is always an adventure during which I meet new people in a great context.”

“These pictures were taken during the Hot air Balloon Festival of Chambley (northeast of France, 3h driving distance of Brussels). It takes place every 2 years and is probably the biggest meeting of balloons with more than 400 participants. I hope to see you there next summer!”

The sky is the limit! Thanks Jonathan for sharing your story.
